How vchat works!

What is vchat and how can it help me?

vchat is a leading Australian broadband telephone company that is committed to providing VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology solutions.

VoIP technology allows you to make your phone calls over your broadband connection instead of your normal copper telephone line.

Thanks to VoIP technology, vchat is able to transport your voice calls over the internet at hugely discounted rates compared to the traditional phone networks. We then pass these cost savings on to you, allowing you to make HUGE savings off your phone bill!

For example

Say you live in Sydney and dial a Melbourne phone number, traditionally, your call would travel along a copper cable all the way from your house to the phone in Melbourne and your telephone company would charge you STD rates for this call.

With vchat, your call will travel from Sydney to Melbourne over the internet, completely bypassing any STD charges. Our systems then pass your call from the internet back to the traditional phone network in Melbourne. So, as you can see, STD rates are a thing of the past. With vchat, every call is a local call!

Until now, VoIP technology has only been used by large businesses that can afford to invest in this cost saving technology. vchat now brings this same technology directly to your home.

I like the sound of that, what do I need to get started?

New technology has never been this easy to pick up! To get started, you will need:

A broadband internet connection. We recommend a connection of at least 512/128kbps to ensure optimal quality, however lower speed connections may still be acceptable.
A small device called an Analog Telephone Adapter, or ATA for short. This device converts any standard phone into an internet phone. We can supply this for you so all you have to do is plug it in. See our available hardware options for more info.
A vchat account. Choose from our list of plans and apply online.

How good is the quality compared to a traditional phone call?

There are a range of factors that can affect the quality of your call, ranging from the speed of your internet connection to the codec used to convert your voice for analog to digital signals and a host of things in between. More often then not however, you, or the person you are calling will not be able to tell the difference between a VoIP call and a traditional phone call.

Can I use vchat in my business?

For sure! Business users stand to save the most amount of money as they typically use their phone more often than a home user would. In most cases, you can even use vchat with your existing phone system or PABX. We can also offer you a range of solutions such as complete VoIP phone systems, hosted PABX systems and more.

How do I plug in my ChatterBox?

Installing you new ChatterBox is a fairly straight forward process. Once you receive your ChatterBox, follow these steps to plug it in:
